91 ranger 98 explorer engine

has anyone done a conversion from a 98 explorer 5.0 to a 91 ranger stx? if so what problems did they hit and any special things i should look for thanks

Well, a '98 Explorer will be returnless; your '91 will be return style. Fuel pump won't be right for the motor.

Also, hopefully you're very familiar with wiring. The '98 will be OBD-II, with the Evap system, PATS, auto tranny/tcase/vacuum hubs... Most of it will be different for a '91. It's doable - lots and lots of wiring time involved.
