I have a 90 Ranger with the 4.0l and I need to change the water pump. But I can't get the clutch fan off. I have the removal tool but it still won't come off I can't get the engine to stop turning. the pulley keeps slipping. please help

With the tool "set" you should get a thin wide mouth wrench, it slide around the bolts on the water pump pulley to stop it from moving.

The other tool in the set is for the clutch nut.

If you only have 1/2 the set, the clutch nut wrench, then leave the belt installed and use a wrench to apply pressure to tensioner, tightening the belt, then try to loosen the nut.

Another option is hitting the corners of the nut with a chisel and hammer. It is usually enough to knock it loose.

I have tried everything I have been told and nothing is working. I dont want to take the whole off together because I am in a wheel chair and it is hard to do as it is.

Are you sure you are going the right way? The fan clutch on that engine is normal thread. Be sure you are going left with it.

I know a lot of people get confused with fans because some are normal and some are backwards thread.
