Hello,
I bought a 1990 Bronco ll with the 2.9 in it. When I bought it the valve covers were leaking oil everywhere. I replaced those and cleaned the engine up. It starts like a champ and idles but very rough. I drove it the other day and once it warmed up it was still missing really bad then all of the sudden steam started coming out the exhaust tip. I have check under the hood an d there isn't rusty water signs nor is there white goopy stuff in the oil when cold. Any ideas. I just had her towed home and really don't know what to dso next. Thanks

i would start by pulling the plugs (be sure to keep them in order) if you have coolant leaking in to one of the cylinders the plug would be very clean like steam cleaned. and if you do have coolant leaking in the combustion chamber doesn't mean its getting past the rings. and is being turned into steam during combustion.

+1 on the cracked head or bad head gasket and as far as the vavle cover leaking that was VERY common on 2nd gen bronco 2s (cant speak for rangers) follow bronco chucks advice and report back. the worst case senerio you get to upgrade?! lol

Ya i'm gonna agree with this.... the 2.9 heads are weak due to there poor design..... I have also had to deal with the valve cover leak its very common on all 2.9's
