9" or 10" drum

hmm.. well I'm gonna have to go investigate further into this. Both in the brake sizes and if my brakes actually work. Because there's times where I sure don't feel them.

Good thing I decided to pop into this post I guess... :annoyed:

Zombie Post here. Do I have 10" Drums on my 93 XLT 4wd 4.0L Engine , it's also a Super Cab. I want to order rear brakes shoes soon.

You might better measure, I just can't tell you what to measure for :/

Brakes change the energy of motion into heat. The more heat they can absorb and then get rid of, the better the long term braking. When the brake assembly cannot absorb any more heat, it cannot stop the vehicle, even if you put both feet on the pedal.

So larger brakes can absorb more heat. Disc brakes are more open, so they change motion into heat just like drum brakes, but being more open they dissipate or get rid of the heat better than drum brakes. The reason for the fins on the drum brakes is to get rid of the heat generated during braking. Once the brake drum is so hot it will not absorb any more heat, you are done.
