89 ranger spark knocking badly

tried 2 different ignition modules and no change. starting to think maybe a fuel pump? fuel pressure regulator tests good.

it would be the high pressure pump for sure...not sure if yours has one in the tank but some of the early ones did...

Anyone know when Ford eliminated the in-tank pump?

they eliminated the frame mounted pump, an '89 just has the in tank pump

pulled bed off truck so i could pull the fuel pump out of the tank.entire assembly is very corroded and the rubber line is rotted.going to order a new assembly monday at work.not sure if this is the problem but it will be one soon so i am going to replace it and i will keep yall informed

bought the entire fuel pump/sending unit today at work.going to try and put it in tonight and see if that has been the problem:dunno:

didnt fix the problem.new pump is alot quieter and truck starts up very quick now.i can rev it past 3000 rpms now but as soon as it is under any load it starts missing and bucking bad.fuel pressure is a little better but still low. i am going to try a pressure regulator next

replaced crank sensor now truck runs fine:icon_thumby:
