89 ranger 4x4. aka the rattlin ranger Build.. pic heavy

I like your build thread! Your bumpers are sick.

How and why was that your only shock mount option?
your should weld a stud into your radius arms and build a new shock mount hanging off of your frame :icon_thumby:

Can you post a pic of your track bar mount on your axle?
just wanted to see it....

Shock mount was just overall a clearance issue. If I move them back to the radius arm they will rub the tire at lock. They are tucked up nice and safe now...Do you see something wrong with it?

The axle side track bar mount was just the stock waggy one moved and re-welded.

So far I have 100ish miles on this... loving it all the way rides nice no TTB "wonder". only things to fix is the steering intermediate shaft slop and the front end with be nice and tight!!

Nothing wrong with it.
I just have never seen it done like that haha
How thick is that metal you are using to build your brackets? 3/16?

There is slop in my steering intermediate too...... just too lazy to fix it haha o well.....

Yeah I have to agree fordranger89 and try to move the shock mount to the radius arm. If you get rubbing what tires and wheels are you using? I just think to be able to use a longer shock would be nice, and a stronger frame mount. Truck is looking though!

I really don't get what your guys deal with the shock location. I does its job and as far as the strength its no different then moving it back on the arm nor will it work different. As far as a longer one I could put a longer one where it is if needed. But its not. All the plate steel is 3/16 yes

I guess i'm not seeing any issue with the shocks

Looks pretty similar to my setup that has worked flawlessly for over two and a half years of GOOD testing. If anything your shocks might be a little longer than mine. as for my shock travel. with it on the rti ramp i can stuff a tire so it is fully compressing the bumpstop, shocks is left with an inch of travel. i can barely get a finger inbetween my 37 and my uncut explorer fender and i have well over a foot of clerance obove the other tire probably closer to two. flex from my setup is just fine for me. the rear suspension from my last truck to my current rig is completely different tho.
No f250 towers needed for me. Also keep in mind I'm running fullwidths so travel at the tire will be a smidge more on mine

this is the SAME front suspension that is under my current truck cept this didnt have any bumpstops. the rear of the truck is running 63's and the my explorer im still running factory spring's over the axle.

THREAD JACK OVER

lol thanks for the hi-jack... I just need to make mine a 3 link to flex like that !!

OK guys, I need some help. I got all my clutch swap stuff done and back in. info 4.0 swap of 2.9 I have yet to find a m5od local so I still have the fm146. I just now swapped over the 4.0 flywheel, clutch and all that was all bought for a 93 as that what yr the motor came from. But here is the deal the starter is hitting the flywheel. I started the motor without the clutch system bled. Right at first the starter hung for a sec "or I thought it did" it had a grinding noise for a few sec after starting. anyway tonight I got the system bled and started the truck and it would make one hell of a noise with the clutch pushed in. So I started to pull everything back apart thinking the new slave/throwout bearing was bad. Anyway I got to the starter and found this.

auto or manual starter? i know there is a differance. not sure what it is but there is one.

Never really figured out the problem. I just shimmed the starter out a lil bit and fixed the problem so far. I think I liked the motor better with the 2.9 flywheel it had alot more getup. But now it idles right. Another weird thing is now it has a longer crank time to start. I have no idea.

I'm from the Tulsa area if you ever wanna wheel. Nice truck

Got out today and did a lil ditch crawlin. After taking the add-a-leaf AKA lift kit out. It has some pretty nice flex. Im really happy with it, very good highway and in town drivable. Finely got my M5od in it WOW thats much nicer then the fm146. Exhaust gears and drive shaft are next on the to do list.

The rear is what I would call perfect. Spring is flat and its just right in the fender and not rubbing. I think I and going to move the lower shock mounts up just and bit. Just to get them up outta the way.

The front looks like it still had 1-2 inches to go but I think the binding in the radius arms stop the front right here.
