Why exactly does everybody use 88+ Chevy springs? Why not the earlier ones?

My reason for asking is because I have a set of older 4" lift half ton springs, I also have a one ton set that I could use the main leaf from, to make a longer softer spring pack if needed.

So why the 88+ springs?

aren't they different lengths?

as long as they're 2.5" wide they should work. I'd so some measuring first though to make sure the wheel will still be centerred in the wheel well before doing the swap.

87' leaf packs are either 52 or 56 inches long, the 88'-98' leaf packs are 63 inches long.

yeah, that would defeat the purpose if having a longer/softer pack lol.

Ok, I stopped being lazy and went into the backyard and measured them. The half-ton springs are 52" and the 3/4 & 1-ton springs are 56". I would much rather have the later 63" ones.

well I just thought I would let you all know that it seems that the spring pack from a 89 suburban 1ton seems to have the 56 inch springs. I just found this out due to the fact that I just bought a set. and cant take them back now. so Just a heads up. now that it 40 bucks down the shitter. and yes I checked the truck the door tag stated 89. but didn't have my tape measure with me.

damn, that sucks. sorry to hear that man. 40 bucks is pretty cheap though for a pair

Suburbans, K-5 Blazers and 1-ton 3+3 trucks carried the "old body style" through 1991.

well now that I know. is there any way to weave a few of these leafs into my dads spring pack on his ranger. to help with his sag. he really doesn't want any lift at all. sorry to thread jack.

Never mind I was just thinking about it and that wont work b/c the chevy springs are centered and the ranger isn't
