88 Ranger front brake hose

I'm trying to replace the front brake hoses on my 88 Ranger, 2.3L, 2WD. I've never done the job but don't know how to remove the old hoses, there is a clip that looks tough to get off. also I'm not sure how the new hose goes in. can someone help me or point me in the right direction. searching on the Internet yielded no results for these brake hoses.

If I recall right you need to disconnect the hard line 1st then bend the clip that's on the back and pry the whole thing upward at the same time. The clip part has to clear the hex part on the back side as your prying up on it before you can remove it completely.

Once you have the hardline disconnected, there is a clip, that you pry the curved end up, then slide it away from the flex line's fitting.

I don't remember the clip being that bad. The problem was getting the line unscrewed from the hose. You are definitely gonna have to clean that up before it'll come apart though.

So, there is a clip that is holding the old hose in, it goes in that open slot on the new hose. Then the old hose, after removing the clip, should come out of that bracket and the new one keys in (one of the hex sides is rounded and the bracket should have a rounded section to match, then the clip goes back on the new hose

I forgot about those style clips, all of mine have the new style that are easier because they don’t latch over the end of the line, lol

That's my '84 in the pics. I think that my '94's had the same or similar clip (CRS strikes again).

so the end of the brake hose unscrews?

It already unscrewed on the upper end in your picture. The lower end uses a banjo bolt.

if anyone was wondering, once you disconnect the hard line (7/16), you need to pop up the clip.its the only thing holding the brake hose end in place. I used the tool show in the picture, it made things a hell of a lot easier. after you pop the clip out, the end of the brake hose will slide in and out. when putting the hose in place don't forget to make sure it stays away from the suspension or any obstruction. then just install the other end to the caliper (14mm).
