87 Ranger.. Loss of power..Sputters

so i looked up the innova 3145 ... o'reilleys down the road had it in stock for like 32 bucks so i bought it...

first test passed the KOEO test and came up with 32c on the KOER test...

no current faults just the code 32 in continous memory ... code 32 is egr pressure sensor and i have already changed egr sensor and egr valve

so i cleared the codes and re-ran the test...

no faults... passed everything ... not sure if i should be happy at this point or not... lol

so i starting thinking... maybe i missed a vacuum line somewhere ... i pulled up my diagram of vacuum lines as seen here

every line and piece on here has been replaced with the exception of the carbon canister and the line going from the carbon canister to throttle body... upon inspecting that line i looks like i broke it loose too ... so off to replace that metal line.

thats the last piece in the vacuum system, if this fails i dont know what to do next lmao

I forgot we did the TPS too. Did you replace that yet? My timing was also way off. I am doing a complete rebuild now so it doesn't matter anymore but it was just problem after problem at first. After it started spueing oil all over the place I just said F@$% it I want a new motor.

timing is all good i have to work another 14 hr day today but should be able to fix the last vacuum line in the morning before i go to work will let you know the update asap

ok now i am clueless ...

changed the last vacuum line... no change

changed the intank fuel pump AGAIN only because the one i bought for inline was bad first and had to go buy a different one, so i thought maybe the intank one isn't good,

it has some power back but still isn't fixed

and now it makes a struggling noise from one of the front pulleys so guess ill go buy one of them now and see what happens, any other thoughts or suggestions would be great :dunno:

That sucks sorry to hear it, I was waiting for some good news, was going to try it out on my truck too lol. Well I'm off work for a few days and going to hit up the junkyard tomorrow and parts store. I get results for my 86 I'll let you know. Mine also has a pulley noise coming from the alternator pulley and the dash battery light has been flickering lately while driving it and its bucking bad.

okies i know my problem and it is .....

cat converter ....

now heres my problem, the truck is suppose to have 2 cats... yet it only has the front one... where there is suppose to be a 2nd one is a muffler...

i know it missing the 2nd cat isnt the problem, hence it used to work and has passed emissions in the past with this system, so i guess my problem is is it a bad front cat or could it be in the muffler?

Great news, glad to hear you got the riddle solved. I was leaning towards my front cat too, its getting a lot hotter than the second one. I know Ebay has direct fit's (stock and maganaflow) normally about 250-300 and advance auto is having a sale on their walker direct fit cats, thinking about going to get one myself.

no its not rattling, but barely anything is going thru it. ive priced front cat at alot of places, autozone here has a magnaflow one for 108.99 but o'reilleys has the same one for 99.99 ... order it online and have it shipped to you... be way cheaper then what your seeing on ebay for it

good news!!! passed emissions!!! WoOoO HoOoOoO another riddle solved

whats screwing me up is the cat was tested earlier in the riddle... and then one thing after another went bad when something was fixed. Im being told its because it was finding the weak spots along the route... :shrugs: this was such a headache....

so now boys and girls... lesson learned here.... ALWAYS make sure you hook jumper cables up properly... and if you dont ... dont let the vehicle sit for years.... (i thought the tank was empty but it wasnt!!!!)

WAIT! You dont need cats at all. on my 92 they are after the o2 sensor. i cut mine out and it runs fine. have you checked your grounds? i had a bad ground and the same thing happened to me. i have my o2 in there with no cat as the cats go after and are not monitored by the o2. even without the o2 the computer takes over and runs fine just very rich. im not sure if our wires are the same but take a look at all the grounds from the battery and take a look at the one going from the battery to the passenger side frame rail if you have one that was my problem

ok so.... just an update for all.... sorry i know its been months...

the whole entire fuel system was replaced in the truck.... all sensors i had mentioned in previous posts were replaced....

the truck ran good from phoenix az to lordsburg nm .... which for who doesnt know, lordsburg is about 21 miles into nm on the I-10 ....

was running fine... no pulling or bogging... and WHAM .... tranny dropped....
so needless to say... despite the few thousand i had invested in this truck right before my move... the truck was left on the side of the road after me flipping out... having literally 20panic attacks... and for who has never had one i swear i was dying....lordsburg is a town in the middle of nowhere with nothing in it.... cell phones dont get service there either lmfao

sadly its been like 5 months and i can now finally joke about the orst day in my life....

so whoever found my truck in lordsburg.... send me a private message and i will mail you the title and keys if you want them.... i would love to have my explorer rims off the truck tho :( my explorer does not look right without them.... only thing wrong is the tranny.... and i can mail you the reciepts for all the work and parts that are new on the truck.... its a good truck, there just wasnt a place around there to get a tranny... *cries*
