Everytime it rains or in the morning when I try to crank my 2.3L ranger it won't.But when it warms up outside it cranks just fine.I have changed the distributor, cap, wires, and coil pack.Any ideas of what i can do to try and fix this problem?:icon_confused:

Are you saying it wont turn over or it wont start. Cranking is what the starter does. Anyway check all the connectors and grounds under the hood. pull the grounds apart and sand them metal to metal and get some dielectric grease and pull the connectors apart clean them with electrical cleaner and put them together with the grease. Check the computer connector and the eec relay for signs of corrosion or water and use the grease to put them back together. If that works or not erase the memory on the computer disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour and then run it at medium speeds until it gets fully warm and then run the codes.

If it only happens when it rains, and will turn over but not start I would suspect the ignition control module or the crank sensor.

this morning she cranked right up but was running bad adn putting out white smoke and when i cut it off it wouldnt start back up

You can do the KOEO test to see what codes it pulls in the tech library under eec-iv diagnostics tells you how to pull the codeshttp://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.html heres the link

Check your plugs, and the IAC

did you replace the coil wire? that can do that.

Just curious, but was it a 'wet' morning? Do you park outside?

Rangers aren't quite as sensitive to the moisture problem that my Tempo had, but I made up little rubber booties for both the distributor and the coil that seemed to help wet starts and reduced the number of times the truck sputtered on the highway from road spray.

The boots from a Tempo work great with a bit of a modification that allows the wires to pass out the back end and the coil wire coming in the front end...
