85 Xr4ti swap into 88 ranger

Well i am now at a loss for a plausible cause as to what the problem is. I got to talk to the guy i bought it from today and he claims the injectors that are in it are the stock ones but they were cleaned and re-screened at a shop. He claims they are 42#/hr injectors, but i was under the assumption that the stock 85' xr4ti injectors were 30#/hr "green tops" as stated earlier in this thread. So needless to say, i took a look under the hood and found what looks to be brown top injectors.. :dunno:

Okay well this guy has no clue because there was no turboford that ever came with 42 lb injectors. Brown tops are 35 lb injectors. Check the code on the computer.

ok i will tomorrow. Did the xr4ti's ever come with brown tops from the factory?

Off the top of my head I don't know. There is a list of the computer codes, injector sizes and vam sizes floating around the interwebs somewhere. I want to say yes onthe brwontops, but I don't think they were on 85s. In early 85, even SVOs ran green tops.

well for some reason over the weekend it started running pretty darn well (first time since owning it) and wouldnt get that topping out feeling till about 4000rpm or so.. but then today it was a back and forth affair, sometimes it would run up to 4000 and sometimes it wouldnt go over 3000 like before.. I would still like to mount my fuel pressure gauge where i can monitor what's going on, but i have a feeling thats not the problem.. and then there is always the possibility of a plugged cat.. but this whole hit and miss issue with the way it runs has got me thinking/stumped :icon_confused:
