After half a day of tracing wires and making harnesses I got the radio to work.
I have read diagrams for premium sound, but it doesn't do a good job of detailing harness connectors.
I ended up removing the amp in the dash and found that there is a small harness that plugged in between the constant power and switched power to the radio and the amp, and the plug was the same as the one that connected to the kit.
So... I pulled that harness out and got the power fixed to the radio, I just had to figure out the speaker wires.
I found a plug that had 8 connectors that I suspected fed the speaker from the amp. I ended up pulling the grills on all the speakers to confirm wire colors going to each one and which was + and -. I cut the connector from the amp and made a pigtail that I was able to match up to the wiring kit I bought that was wired to the radio. After get all the random wires hooked up, it's working!
I'm not thrilled with the trim and as Robbie said the radio didn't fit through the stock dash trim without opening it some. I'll work on making it better soon, but it is in and works and works much better than the old stock radio.
What an install, guess I've been spoiled by all the newer vehicles where you could swap a radio in an hour. This took some time, troubleshooting and fab work.
