'83 tailgate question

Pete, I'm working on my tailgate as well. Here's a pic of what I think you're looking for. I picked mine up at a salvage yard a couple years back. If you need a different angle or something else, let me know and I'll post it for you.

1qaz . .thank you. Yes I figured that is what it looked like, although I thought there would be some more meat at the thinest area. I could turn one out of wood, and then make a mold. Then using ABS would be easy enough. I'm pretty sure that is ABS you are showing. Thet fact that they are so thin in that area is probably why they are breaking. I don't have any aluminum rod that large ( they are about 1.75" dia ), but that might be an option too. Thanks again.

……………………. IF you want it bad enough. I'm currently doing that with a Sport Trac front brake conversion because no one would lend me their brackets, or make me a set for $$$..

exactly what are you doing on the Sport Trac conversion? 12" rotors? larger rotors? larger caliper brackets to put 12" rotors on 11.25 knuckles?
Aviators had 13" rotors from the factory, around 2005 or so. 98 Crown Vics have 12.5" rotors that are nearly identical to Rangers 2000+
unfortunately both the Aviator and Crown Vic have different bolt dimensions for the brackets, neither fits a Ranger.

This is not what this thread is about . . . .
I have found the part everyone thought wasn't available. All involved should be happy.

I'm converting my 1st gen to 97 beams, and then making brackets to space the caliper out and mounting up Sport Trac 12" rotors. It'll be a slow process because of the weather/cold and because I'm also doing a re-gear to 3.73's on my rear axle. But I've got over $900 in new parts coming in this weekend for the swap, and I've already got the complete 97 beams but still need to tear them down and blast them. I paid $75 for both beams, complete from rotor to rotor, including the radius arms, so at least I got a deal there. lol

I might also do a front coilover conversion this summer using Rick's brackets.

I'll try to make a thread on the conversion in the near future if I can manage to remember to take a bunch of pictures.

I'm limited to 98+ SLA experience. Beams I don't do, but the caliper brackets are similar aren't they?

now back to the tailgate issues....mine work fine and new bushings on the left side don't fit worth a damn.

The left side on the early Rangers don't have a bushing, do they? They is only .030 diameter difference OD to ID in fitment tolerance. That would be .015 around, everywhere. Where would a bushing fit?

It took 2 days for Carpenter to deliver my parts. Great service. Exactly the piece we need.

I installed the tailgate to see how it fit. I reinstalled the painted bed today, tailgate fits perfectly now . . time to paint the gate.
