Are there any differences between a ’01 8.8 rear and a ’93 8.8? (both are out of rangers)

As far a bolting up and fitting, no. brake sizes can differ.

yep I had looked through the tech library, I just wanted confirmation. I had come across the '01 8.8 and figured I'd pick it up for trail spare shafts

I have yet to see a factory installed 8.8" with the small drums.

Other than that?

The '01 rear is EIGHT YEARS newer than the '93 rear.
