i have a 95 ranger 4x4 with a 4.0 and the 8.8 rear end. i was changing the gear oil in the rear and when i popped the cover and let the fluid out i noticed 4 metal chips in the bottom of the diff, i think they might be pieces of the LS clutch. they are all the same size and shape, about 1 inch long 1/2 inch wide and maybe 1/16 inch thick. not sure if it is fixable, can probably get a rebuild kit. big question is, with what it would cost to fix it is now a good time to invest in a locker??? thanks for any feedback you may have

if you have any mechanical skills (and I think you do if you are changing the diff fluid), then rebuilding the limited slip isn't that bad.....parts would run anywhere from $50-$75.....

If you have the extra cash laying around and you have a need for a locker, then I would get a lunch box locker

A rebuild kit will probably be about $75. I would sooner put a lunchbox locker in there than rebuild the L/S.

The pieces you decribed sounded like they are the same thickness as the steels in the L/S.

hey thanks guys, i think i am gonna try to find a lock-rite or something ive been itching for a reason to get one i just wish i had the funds to get switchable ones for the back and front

Just a heads up, the No-Slip is the only lunchbox locker made to fit in the LS 8.8 case. It is more expensive but is said to be much smoother than a lock-right. Both are made by Powertrax.
