60,000 or 100,000 miles?

My 2008 2.3L is approaching the 60,000 mile mark and was wondering if I should replace the spark plugs and wires at that point or should I wait to the 100,000 mile mark like Ford suggests?

My 1994 4.0 wires lasted for 18 years, over 200,000.

I would pull the plugs and have a look, see how much the electrodes are wearing and general lean/rich environment of the engine.

If you think they need replacing then use Motorcraft, other "better" brands don't always survive long in Ford engines.

Leave them be. You will get at least 80,000 miles out of them. Possibly 110 or more.

I would only replace them if you develop a misfire or see drastic drop in fuel economy.

If you are in the rust belt, change the plugs. It's no fun trying to get the lower part of the metal piece out after they break due to rust. If you are not in the rust belt then don't fix what aint broke.

boy is that ever sage advice- something most wouldn't consider unless they've encountered it before- 'ounce of prevention' sort of wisdom at its best. I don't live in the rust belt, but have had to deal with broken sparkplugs in old air cooled VWs- if they weren't properly tightened, then carbon would leak into the threads practically welding them into place- they break off and you end up pulling the engine.
