6.5 diesel na initial swap report

trucks is def. looking good. I would went with a PSD with twin turbos but ahh well lol. yeah buyin back a wrecked diesel is more than u would think. I had a friend with a 99 f-250 ext cab 4x4 lifted on 35s, fell asleep and bashed it off some guardrails and they totaled it, gave him like 13,500 for the truck and he asked how much to buy it back? they replied with a 2500-3500 range. the damn ting even had 350k miles on it, wish i could total my psd out so i can go get a newer ranger lol. Wishful thinking lol

good job on the swap.

:icon_rofl:
Ahh come on now, at least you would know the motor would hold up pretty well and with only 20k miles it could still be under warranty, not quite sure if they would fix it in a ranger tho but that would be the funniest thing to try" hello, i've got a 7.3 powerstroke diesel and i wanted to know if you would replace the CPS for me since thereis a recall on it" Parts guy "sure bring it in monday and we'll have it fixed right up" Roll in with the ol' ranger and say i'm here for my 10 o'clock appointment for a CPS replacement" Parts guy "...... where's the truck?" You would then reply "right there she is, beautiful aint it?" :icon_rofl::icon_rofl::D not so sure bout the drivetrain but the motor definately. My diesels only got 119k on it and still running strong :headbang:

i meant a 20 thousand dollar engine combination....twin turbo psd and tranny that could take it would cost me 18 k to do all the work myself.

if i had money like that i would buy a new 2wd and put these parts and the psd in that...

that would be worth doing.

i saw in the original post that you were using up 8.8s what t-case are you using? i want to drop a caterpillar diesel.

currently i have a ford 208.

i was tearing up the 8.8's due to power and overloading.
but that was with the gas engine, it was over factory power available in a 1/2 ton, so bigger tires and rough conditions add up quick.

i seen your cat post.

been over a year.

for my application it was worth it all the way:icon_thumby:

A 6.5 lasted a whole year without the crank breaking in 6 places and the oil pan filling up with water?

How did this happen?:icon_confused:

:D

Nice Willl... nice:icon_rofl:

almost 2 years.....was hoping for 40 k before problems and got over 100....

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....how ya like me now?!?!?!:thefinger:

hope i didnt jink it.....should have waited a few more days :)

nice is not something fitting for this thing at any point:icon_rofl:

Got any more pics of the swap? What did you do with the steering gear? This could be interesting since I can pick up a 6.2 w/ 700r4 4x4 for about 500 bucks!

theres some somewhere, lots of stuff got wiped at my cardomain site where i had a deal setup for this...lost 5 pages and a shitload of pics. worse one of my kids destroyed the laptop they were on and i dont have any way to get the originals now.

:dunno:

as to the steering i tried a few setups. the gm 2wd would have been the best but i decided to hack in the massive donor cooling system which put me back to a ford bronco unit. a toyota or other foreign type mini box simply would be destroyed in my application so they were not seriously considered, but looked at for alternates in a worst case scenario. for a 2wd street rig they are good though.

are you ttb? ttb will takes some comprimising to work, but its workable.

a 6.2 will defiantly need a turbo. i liken my n/a 6.5 to a stock 4.0 for actual use. it carries better with big tires though on the street. very tolerable with 42,s driving around. i put over 7000 miles on the 42's with this setup over the last two years. off road not so good, i run out of rpms in high range in deeep sand or on big climbs...just dont have the nads to do it. low range is ok though.

friggen things will run on anything though...
