5r55e rebuild

how hard is it to rebuild a 5r55e? got one that was in my ranger but it overheated untill i blew the engine. now is sitting in my shop class am i am thinking about having it rebuilt before swapping it for a 4 speed thats in it now. but how hard is it do do? is it something i can tackle by myself?

That's a helluva transmission to learn on. Alot of electronics and pieces inside that trans. I'd send it someone who knows what they are doing.....make them put a warranty on it. Just my opinion

live in alaska not really cost effective... but i do know one guy who does trannys i was just wondering for the learning aspect thanks.
