However, the Toyo Koygo 5sp trans used 1983-87 (the ONLY 2wd 5sp trans 1983-87)
was also used in the 1986-87 Aerostar with the 3.0 engine, though these are relatively
rare they do exist... and the bellhousing from an Aerostar can be used in combination with other 1991-92 3.0 Ranger parts to allow the physical installation of a 3.0 engine into an earlier ranger.
Personally Though I know it's physically possible there isn't a whole lot of point to doing so because it's actually more work than would be required to swap in... say... a 4.0 engine
and that has a much bigger payoff on torque and long term reliability.
