im currently building my 8.8 (31spline of course) and im havin difficulties getting the right gear pattern.

to start:
pinion shim stock 30 thousandths
30 thousandths on 5.13
gear mesh showed pinion to deep or close to carrier

changed shim to 25 thousands
gear mesh showed same, to close to carrier

shim change to 0, no shims at all
gear meshed showed to close to carrier.

all 3 appear to be exactly the same, the randys ting and pinion guy doesnt listen i gues and sais to go with 26 thousandths.

changed shim to 50 thousandths
gear mesh showed to close to carrier (no suprise there)

all readings were taken with back lash within 12 to 15 thousandths, spec calls for 11 to 16.

im lost, i sent pics to randys we'll see what they say.

has anyone done 5.13s on a torsen? im using yukon gears and yukon master install kits.
anyone had any experiance with the torsen?

some pics however thur low res

Did you make sure the pinion bearing & races are seated down all the way?

BTW, BL spec is .008-.015 on that axle.

turned out to be the inner pinion bearing race not seated (thats what u get for not doing it yourself)

seated bearing races

switched pinion shims back to factory stock at 30 thousandths

and now its a friggin butter pattern. right on.

moral of the story

IF U WANT IT DONE RIGHT, DO IT YOURSELF.

all butter :headbang:

Glad you got it figured out. :icon_thumby:

Your pics are a bit blurry, but I might say try adding about 2-3 thou on the pinion shim and see what the pattern looks like, it may be just a touch shallow (try thinning the grease out a tiny bit with some gear oil too, and then rotate the gears using a wrench on a ring gear bolt to get your pattern. I've found this makes for much better readability on the gear teeth).

well i didnt changer the pinion shim after that.

tonight i buttoned up the rest of the axle. got the axles in and brakes on. disc brakes are sick.

i found out the Torsen i have is a T2-R. they call it "racemaster" bassicly they added preload springs to hold load against it.
