$ 5.00--5.50 gallon

If the president has nothing to do with the price of gas then why does it allways drop for presidential elections. We are being played by progressives in both parties it is all a matter of perception. Take for instance jeherima white and obama say publically they dont like each other and the truth is they are pals. We have to vote progressives out of office in my humble opinion. You can vote for obama or America you cant have both.

Oh how I cringe as I type this, as I am actually sticking up for the guy.

How does Obama's energy policy have an effect on what crude oil trades for on a world market? If this were true, wouldn't our gasoline prices be the highest in the world? Here in the USA, we pay nothing compared to many countries in this world. Just ask our friends on here from Canada.

The problem is that the progressives are in both parties! Republicrat or Democan, you're voting against America either way.

Look at any issue, then look at their record. Republicans are the new Democrats, and the Democrats might as well be the CPUSA. Of course, they're both the War Party. When you then look at who they have to serve to get into office, it becomes obvious why.

Don't look to Donald Trump either. From his wikipedia article:

"Since the 1990 U.S. elections, Donald Trump has made contributions to campaigns of both Republican Party candidates (including John McCain, Rudolph Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, and George W. Bush[91]) as well as Democratic Party candidates (including Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Tom Daschle, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Rahm Emanuel, Hillary Clinton, Anthony Weiner, Charles Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Charles Rangel[91][92][93]).

Back to gas prices. A lot of it has to do with taxes. For people in the USA, it also has to do with regulation. There's a lot of oil here that we can't drill for. They might be technically allowed to drill in deep water in the gulf again, but I suspect the drilling companies don't want much part of it due to heavy liability. This is de-facto regulation.

Speculators do play a role, how much is up for debate. Also, the value of the dollar does make quite a bit of difference. If the dollar is going down, the price of oil is going up. Efforts are underway right now in other countries to start trading oil in something other than dollars. When that happens, you'll look back on $5 a gallon as the "good old days."

Taxes make up an average of 13 cents per dollar spent on gas in the United States. This obviously varies by what state and city you live in. We pay the same for a barrel of crude oil as any other country, and it is indeed the taxes and such that make up the large portion of the difference between prices in different countries.

However, there is this myth that if we drill more in the US, somehow fuel prices are coming down. US crude oil enters the same market it does from any other country and is purchased the same way as any other country. I personally feel speculators drive the prices high by saying "we think it's going to be this high by --/--/----", and the market follows. If you think about it, we don't have a supply issue right now but prices of crude are going up.

This is the approximate breakdown of each dollar spent on fuel in the US, as per the US Department of Energy.

* Taxes: 13 cents
* Distribution and Marketing: 8 cents
* Refining: 14 cents
* Crude oil: 65 cents

EDIT: I don't feel what I typed above quite says what I mean. When I said "However, there is this myth that if we drill more in the US, somehow fuel prices are coming down", I'm not saying oil prices absolutely wouldn't come down. It's just not a guaranteed thing. We can not drill our own oil and just keep it. It also enters the market as it does from any other country.

Yeah, perhaps I could have worded that a bit better. What I was implying was that the differences in taxes between countries have a lot to do with the price differences between our gas (in the USA) and the gas prices those in other countries.

that's bullshit, i've been paying well over a dollar a liter since long before obama was president

TAXES. That's your issue.

In the US, it's...

oh screw it. I'm sick of this shit.

everyone here in canada know it's a tax issue, my point isn't trying to say anything like that... it's that all of the points of people complaining that gas is so expensive and such, is bullshit... usa has some of the cheapest gasoline in the entire world... get over it and welcome to the rest of the world, i know a lot of people in the states think they live in this bubble that protects them from the rest of the world, and that you guys don't deserve to have the issues because you're special... the fact of the matter is, the only thing that makes you special is the fact that you guys can't wrap your head around the metric system, and trust me, that's a much different kind of special than you think you are

I agree with some of what you say there weezl. But you say we think we are special and should be immune to gas price hikes that you see? I'm not sure I've seen anyone say that. Everyone in the world should be scared and pissed that oil and gas prices are inflating for no justifiable reason, no matter where you live.

my honest opinion, when you pay less for gas than the rest of the world, if your price doubles, and you're still paying less than most people, you shouldn't complain about it...

i put 75$ in my tank today, when i was at 1/4, and it still wasn't full... but yet i'm not going to complain about it, because the gas price i paid was 1.20 per liter, and i know the rest of my family back home is paying 1.37 per liter...

that's like getting mad because your newspaper got rained on, when your neighbour's house is flooded...

i should also make it clear i'm not lumping all americans in on one judgement, i said a lot of people in the states, not all, or even most of...

Sorry man I don't see your point. It's still more than we normally budget for, and still costs more than it should. You probably pay some taxes through fuel that we pay in other places. The crude oil price is the same for you as it is us. I reserve the right to be angry....and everyone else in the states.

You indeed said that, but you also said it in a thread of "people in the states" who are upset about gas prices.

The metric system is cake. What's so hard about base 10? We should have been using it years ago.

Maybe you guys aren't smart enough to figure out 64ths...

:icon_rofl:

lol :thefinger:

i can figure it out just fine... we need to know it sitting on top of you, any products that come out of the states are measured in fl oz, dry oz, weight oz, imperial oz, pints, gallons, pounds... lol

why the hell you need 3 different versions of the oz, i will never know... plus the ACTUAL oz from the imperial system!

yes budgeting changes for fuel, but no more so than other countries... it's not like canadians have more fuel efficent vehicles than the states, and in fact, we get the short end of the stick, because we don't have nearly as many flex fuel vehicles as you guys do!

Yeah, we have a way of confusing the hell out of ourselves and everyone else. I always have to find a damn online calculator to convert things too because I can't keep the shit straight.

Maybe instead of whining about it on the internet, and insulting the people of the USA, you should contact your government and ask that they lower fuel taxes. While you're at it, spread the word. The more people complaining the better it works. :icon_idea:

We know all about b**ching to government here in the US. Maybe that's why our gas taxes are lower here... :icon_thumby:

i'm pretty sure i'm not whining about paying 5.00-5.50 a gallon... i'm pretty sure i'm telling you guys to suck it up because we pay more and DON'T complain about it...
