"4x4" light works intermittently..

On my Ranger the "4x4" light works intermittently. The little light by the push button always works fine and the "low range" light always works fine. It goes into 4 wheel drive every time. Does anyone know what would cause this light issue?

Sounds like the light bulb itself or the connection (oxidized contacts where the bulb socket piece goes into the inst. cluster is not uncommon)

ther's a magnetic position sensor on the t-case right near the shift motor. mine had some metal filings on it. easy to remove and clean. i would try that also.
