4 x 4 STOPS working.....Had a very interesting fix on my 93 Ford Ranger 4x4 with 290,000 miles, second owner, stock truck...the 4x4 stopped engaging, after being used many times here in Indianapolis over the last winter....got out the Ford shop manual, and checked several options to diagnose. One was to check the PCM, Powertrain Control Module behind the flip up seat in the extended cab...Conducted a Push button test, if you will, and the light did not react the way the book said it would. I pulled out and reinserted ALL the plug-ins to the PCM, started the truck, and the 4x4 worked!....even things that look like they are making contact may corrode or develop a non-contact phenomenon over time...I'm a believer now...am going to replace all fuses and relays on truck too......any comments

What is the "Push button test" to which you refer? I don't have a shop manual, but my 4WD just quit working and dash light doesn't even come on for 4WD Low.
