Everyone but me may already know this, but sinse I did not see it in the tech section thought I'd throw it out.
I installed an X rearend over the rear leafs and flipped a left shock bracket to mount on the Ranger. Like I've heard about round here.
Looks good but the front needs to come down 2" or so.
I'm out in the pick and pull and sure enough, every 4wd is one coil shorter than 2wd.
Pulled a set today and will soon know if it does the job.
If so my fingers are crossed when I get it alligned.

did you measure the coil?

coil count and actual ride height dont go hand in hand....but ride quality on the other hand:D

many times a 2wd will be 4cyl, and a 4x4 will be a mackdaddy 4.0

No measure, it looked shorter and caught my eye. I will know when I change my lower ball joints, soon.
Looks like the I beam on the 4wd is taller to allow for the axle, so Ford used a shorter spring. Only small motor trucks in the yard, no 4.0's.

well.

since the difference in ride height is even greater the the beam height difference, thats not the best way to figure things out.

They used the same length spring, that's what gives the 4x4 the taller ride height combined with the taller tires.
