Ok, so I picked up a TransGo Stage 2 shift kit for my 4R70w in my green Ranger (trans was from a 98 Explorer). Then I decided to research the famous Jmod…

Seems to me that the shift kit has a lot more to be done, but I noticed a few things the Jmod does that differ from the shift kit and I’d like to gather some opinions/information…

The 2nd accumulator:

Jmod says pull the cover and remove the springs between the cover and the piston.

Shift kit says all new springs and a spacer. I’m leaning towards this.

Separator plate:

Jmod says drill 5 holes to 7/64” and one to 3/32”

Shift kit has slightly different drill requirements. Some are similar and some are not. Below is a pic, I highlighted the Jmod holes.

The Jmod doesn’t really seem to do anything else. The shift kit has a few valves and springs to do in the valve body which I intend to do. I’m also intending to skip the one check ball.

Last, the shift kit comes with an EPC Relief Valve. Bunch of kits I saw installed completely ignored this (everyone mentioned the Driver Command though and said don’t do it, which I didn’t intend to do anyway). I’m wondering why nobody mentions or does anything with the EPC Relief Valve.

If anyone wants the rest of the pics of the shift kit instructions I can add them. I’m also open to whatever input anyone has.

Nobody has any input at all??

Disappointing. Where is RonD when you need him, lol.

@JoshT , you have any thoughts here?

That I'm not caring about transmissions right now. Family medical emergency.

I said all I can about the J-mod and shift kits in the other thread. Only other thought is that this probably isn't the best forum for questions about this stuff. Can't say that the better sites are very friendly though.

Prayers for your family.

The J mod was from a Ford engineer that developed those transmissions.

The shift kits are not.

All I got.
