I just bought a 99 ranger 4wd with the 3.0 and auto tranny for 1500 with 92,xxx miles. Problem being is the tranny is def smoked. It has no reverse and only 1st and 2nd work. If you put in d or OD it just makes a clicking racket. So i just oredered a master rebuild kit off ebay. Do you think changing all the soft parts and clutches, bands and all that it comes with will fix my problem? Another thing is the hi and low 4wd light blink. is that just telling me my tranny is smoked? lol i put a superchips in it just to pull dtc's and no codes??? Anyways any info and torque specs would be much appreciated. as i have only done mercedes 5 and 7 spd auto's.

Flashing 4wd lights have nothing to do with the transmission.

why wouldnt the tranny send a code?

It would...through a flashing OD light.

Hmm the od light doesnt flash. I know it works cause i can turn od on or off?? so it has to be a mechanical problem right?

Ok so took the tranny out and have inspected it. All the solenoids seem to be fine. I checked there resistances and are were they should be. What else could be causeing the problem that there wouldnt be a check engine light or a od light flashing??
