i have searched and searched a 4bt swap into a older ranger (1988)... i found them. but i have not found a very complete build thread... can anyone help me out?

also.. my truck is 2wd. i have only seen 4bt's in 4x4 trucks, is there a reason for this? i want to create a truck that gets awesome gas mileage and more power. i realize i could do a gas swap but i just think a diesel would be sweet.

The reason there arent that many write-ups on it is because not that many have been done. Its not like a 5.0l swap, where a million have done it.

Your best bet is to go to 4btswaps.com, there are a few that have been done on there.

mileage might not be that "awesome" really. most guys do this conversion just because it's a 'diesel thing'. 4bt is quite heavy requiring beefing up all the front suspension and frame. lots of heavy metal there. my guess is with all the extra weight, you'll still be in the 20's for mpgs. i'm getting 21 now and that is good enough for me. good luck with your build.

how much can you get a cummins 4bt for?

Picked mine up for $2500... had a wabco compressor and inline A series pump, 132hp. SOld it 2 years later for the same.
