4 wheel drive question or problem

when I have the 4x4 engaged there is a loud grinding clicking noise coming from the right side of the front end of the truck. any ideas?

1994 ford ranger 4.0 5 speed

Sounds like a hub problem. I have a 94 B4000 that had the same symptoms (automatic hubs). Put in Warn manuals. Also had a 1970 Bronco (manual hubs) that did the same thing.

sounds like you grenaded a hub. automatic hubs suck. if thats what you have, its highly recomended to convert them to manual.

sorry, I have manual hubs on this truck with electronic 4x4 selection I also have a hell of a time selecting 4x4 low
