4.9 l inline 6

my ol man beat allot of 351's with the 300 in street stock years ago and took a season as well.... at flatrock speedway in michigan......i know what they are capable of.... but making a 300 like that is not cheap or easy. i know exactly how to build them for power.

i was just talking about reality.

you know, run whats out there. maybe i am too pragmatic:dunno:

for internal combustion engines at this point there has never been such a selection of cheap reliable power like there is right now at this very second...

wonderful times for gear heads....

makes me wonder why many just say stupid shit about one brand or another instead of enjoying whats here.

but all things considered, if thats what you got close....run that fawker....when it dies....if it ever dies....deal with it then.

enjoy your 300 for sure. just dont drive anything else or you will be consumed with envy.

Well, we don't know if he wants a work horse or a race horse...an I-6 is great as a work horse, and can be modded into a pretty decent race horse if you have enough bux, but it's not a race horse in stock configuration...rather an extremely reliable work horse, almost an ox instead of a horse. You can't beat a 300 I-6, carbed or injected, for reliability but it's an old design that isn't made for fuel efficiency...there are more modern designs that are better, but he got what he has for $150...can't beat that. I think they quit making and selling the 300 I-6 in the 90's sometime, and it went from carbed and points, etc., to tbi and duraspark/solid state sometime in the mid-80's. How you wind up hooking it up depends on what year your donor motor is...might be a nice, sweet, easy swap but you will need some wiring expertise to draw on.

its an ox. wasnt tbi that i remember but mpi and then sefi.

awesome design. still made by others to this day to do what it does best....nothing fast or powerful. but an extreemely reliable worker getting work done.......like a superhero ox with a cape. day in day out.

hell theres a wetsleeve version that runs on ammonia etc...which is truly a forever engine which is what it was nicknamed....seen a big deal at one of the equipment functions for our remote pumps and generators. they can be setup for producer gas etc....tough bastards. just outstanding flexibility. i was very surprised they could certify them, but that stroke is efficient for 2-250 footpounds. simple as that.

people get the jist i dont like the 300....its not as simple as that... just given the choices its a loser for a ranger in ford form....i grew up with them and know what they can do and leave it at that. if you have it use it..

on the other hand put the modern multifuel type in there and you got something worth talking about.

hey, its quite possible i could have one someday based on multifuel capacity which is why i run the engine i do now.

its the torque for days stuff that makes me laugh. compared to what?

It's gonna be for a work horse and a crawler but my neighbor has everything to convert the one I have to fuel injected and I think that's what I want to do because I don't like the cutting out bullshit that a carbureted motor dose on a side hill or an incline

Yeah, a little thing called gravity/physics gets in the way sometimes when you put a carb vehicle offroad...go with the fuel injection. Good luck.

Thanks ill have to post some pictures of my build I just got the running gear off and I'm preping the frame to weld the spring purches on and then I need to swap out the rear end that I just got( 9 inch welded ) and then I'm gonna rip the 2.8 out and start on the motor and trany and as soon as I get the motor up and running and wired in I think I'm gonna start on my flatbed iv already taken the bed and passenger fender and door off so there not in the way

For a crawler the 300 will work just fine. I for one have seen first hand what a stock 300 I's capable of. They defintaly are far from a racer but can out torque most small block V8s of the same vintage and keep running despite lack of oil, antifreeze or general matience.

Get some head work done....put on efi exhaust manifolds, a little 4bbl and have a good stout easy to work on, run forever engine.
