4:56 or 5:13

I guess it comes down to a matter of opinion, within reason...

Freeway speed limit in Michigan is 70, and slow-lane traffic moves at 75-80. That's just too many RPMs for me, regardless of if I have a 2.9 or 4.0. I'd rather gear up a little and lower the RPM.

Everyone agrees that the 2.9 is different than the 4.0 and needs a little more RPM. But this doesn't mean you want to install gears that put you at 3500k for a cross-country drive.

Have you driven a 2.9 or for that matter, a 2.8L powered truck? especially one with 35s? 3000 rpm is happy highway cruising for a 2.8. Anything lower up hills and you will be getting passed by semis....

We're not talking about a 2.8. We're talking about a 2.9.

And yes, I've driven a 2.9 with 35s.

I don't know why anyone would want to go over 70mph with 35's....

3000-3500 Rpm is fine with me, no need to downshift when you hit any sort of incline.

To keep up with traffic.

That's why I drive to work in second gear, no need to downshift. :icon_rofl:

But seriously, that's what I meant when I said this is a matter of opinion to some degree. If you live in the great plains and criuse at 75, you might want 4.88s. If you live in a hilly area, drive a little slower, and don't mind your RPMs a bit higher at times, 5.13s are probably right.

Yeah ya know, I'm not trying to argue or anything, but I do live in quite a hilly area, so that's probably why I vote 5.13. :D

Regardless of the highway speed you have to remember that something on 35s is pushing a lot of air especially a ranger cuz you need atleast 6 inches or more of lift to clear them so its sitting pretty high up there and not very aerodynamic so in order to keep from putting huge load on your motor I would suggest the 5.13s, that way your motor isn't bogged down by those big ass tires and last time I checked 65-70 is perfect for highway its plenty fast and your won't get any tickets!

well i am thinking of sticking with 33's or 34's so ill just get 4.56s

id go with 5.13 for sure. i have 4.56 run 38s with a 4.ol I can run 85 on the highway (even though i dont like to) but i can. I wish i would have went 5.13
