I'm thinking of regearing my '92 3.0 with a 3.73. I raised the truck 2", and will probably go to bigger tires eventually. I was thinking of going to a 30" tire. I've been wanting to regear for awhile now, as I find the 3.73 a bit sluggish. But I'm not sure if I should go to a 4.10 or 4.56. If I go bigger tires, which would be the best gear to go with?

edit: I'll add that I'm in Denver, and I am always having to downshift to 3rd or 4th to climb. So I don't think I'll see a large decrease in fuel economy either way I go, since I won't have to be dropping gears to get the truck out of its own way. Even 4th gear going up into the mountains doesn't work well, and I rather like to drive 55+ on a 60+ mph road.

Always go lower, cause you are gonna want bigger tires and then bigger tires and then bigger tires.

I'm running 4.56 gears with my 33" tires and they work well but seem to be a tad overkill. If you plan on upgrading your truck again to stuff in bigger tires then I'd go with 4.56s but if you're sticking the 30" tire then 4.10s would probably do the trick.

4.56's with 33's with a 4.0 is right. 3.0's like higher rpm's so the deeper the better. With that set up a 3.0 would need 4.88's.

In my opinion 30's with a 4.10 axle would be your best or cheaper option. You can find a 4.10 axle out of a junkyard truck that's "pre-geared" and is a bolt in swap. Look in 4cyl 4x4 rangers.

I would also run 4.10s with 30s, 4.56 is overkill even for a 3.0.
