how can i tell what year my 4.0 is

cmon i need some help here is it printed in the block i nnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddddd to know before i start to do my 4.0l swap

You can GUESS by reading some part numbers off the emissions devices attached to the engine. The "prefix" is the model and year first produced for that particular part. Emissions parts tend to change frequently. The model year is the first two digits. E.g., F9=1999. F6 = 1996. E4= 1984. See the pattern?

Obviously, your truck didn't come from the factory with parts from a future model year. So, find the youngest parts on the engine.

thanks guys ill try to take pics but its in my schools auto shop and they can be reall pricks about cameras. plus its total bull sh#t cause my trucks already in the auto shop and they dicked my schedule around so i dont have auto but its being fixed now. is there like a tag on the side of the engine that has the date or would that be because of a rebuild
