4.0 with 2.9 electronics?

I don't know for sure but I think the 2.9 inlet manifold doesn't fit
on a 4.0
(different angle on both sides)

I know that because we are busy with running a 4.0
on a Holley and also struggling with these things!

Run a 2.9 distributor in the 4.0. I have compared a 2.9 TFI dist side by side with a 4.0 oil pump drive and they are the same as far as the shaft, gear and housing length are concerned.

Put 19lb injectors in it and run the hell out of it on the 2.9 ECU.

The 19lb injectors are perfect for the displacement increase, and the ECU learning curve will take care of everything else. I bet it would run fine.

You should do it, and let us know.

you may look at the lower intake's there may be a problem putting the 2.9 dis in the 4.0 block with the intake just look in to it

Very true, I cant confirm that. Maybe ill take a look next time im out at the jy.

Just curious if you've done the same w/ a 2.8L versus 2.9L distributor?

from a 2.8 is different because of the wheel on it.

2.9 en 4.0 (chain) turns the other side compared to a 2.8 (camshaft wheel)

Sven Pruett claimed in his book that you could get the approperiate distributor gear from the Ford dealership, but offered no part numbers. And yes, I am aware of the direct gear drive vesus timing chains between the 2.8L and 2.9/4.0. This has been talked about for a while, if I were still into V6s I would blindly try it, but so far no one has accomplished this feat to proove it could be done. It's just not practical for me to put anymore money into my 2.9L since it is going to be removed in a couple months.
