4.0 or 5.b

I would rather have a 4.0 because I think it will cost less than a 5.0 conversion. Thanks for your input.

i want to keep the dash if i can. and i guess 4.0 would be better. i will be driving it everyday so its needs to get dome kind of gas mileage.

No need to swap the dash or wiring at all, just the engine control wiring.

i do have the manual and what would i do just pull the radiator and stuff out too? and exhaust i can do myself i know how to do that.

I am running the rad out of a 4.0 Explorer automatic with A/C. Basically it is the same rad as your rig has now but is twice as thick.

Ok when I have asked about a 5.0 vs a 4.0 into an 88 Ranger 2wd I get two answers, with the 4.0 you will want to swap the dash and the 5.0 is the same amount of work with more benifit.

What I don't get is why is it "best" to swap out the dash for a 4.0 and not a 5.0.

What 4.0? A newer one would really complicate things going into a older truck.

I don't have AC and don't really need it. To me it's just extra drag on the motor and I so could just get a radiator from the same vehicle since ill be there

If you don't check the AC checkbox you will get a single core radiator. I don't have AC either but I need the extra cooling that the radiator for that application supplies for my 302.

If you go with a 4.0 you probably won't need it though, you might double check but I think they use the same single core rad as anything else in a Ranger from the factory. If it is something else it still won't be the 2 core Ex rad though.

Well I could just get the double core radiator and then it will keep the motor cooler right?

Ford thought that the smaller one was good enough for a Ranger...

You are on your own on that one. :icon_thumby:

I take that as a yes.lol my truck already gets warm so o think I'll do that. And with tyranny mounts would I be able to just use the same ones and everything?
