My '93 4.0 OHV has a 50DR1. The donor was a Mazda 4.0 OHV with a 50DR1. I understand the 3.0 uses an entirely different trans. One from a 4.0-SOHC will not work either,

4.0 OHV and 4.0 SOHC's use the same transmission bolt pattern and bell housing. I have installed a '03 4.0 SOHC M50D-R1HD in a '97 Ranger 4.0 OHV.

We REALLY need to make a sticky on this forum about transmission interchangability. It's almost every day someone asks which transmissions will work in their truck. I think I'll PM Jim about it later.
