We have to replace the cylinder heads on my son's 1997 Ford Ranger, 4.0 OHV. One head (Ford) was cracked. The other head (Mahle) was not cracked, but is rough. My questions:
Isn't the casting supposed to be 98TM for this year and motor? The ripout heads are 95TM.
What heads work well to replace these and where do you recommend purchasing them?

Thank you
Josh

Look at the pistons, big dish newer head, small dish older head.

If your engine has cracked a head make sure you fix the actual problem or it will crack the new heads. EGR, 02 sensor, faulty PCV valve etc.. Something is causing a lean condition.
