hey new to this site and i was wondering if i could get some help
i have a 99 ranger with a 4.0 ohv motor and its shot i was wondering if a 4.0 ohv out of a 97 explorer will fit right in or will i have problems i was told that i could only use a 99 or 00 motor is that true ? thanks!!!

if your engine DOES have a EGR on it you can use a 1998-2000 ranger or explorer 4.0.
if it DONT you are limited to a 99-2000 ranger or explorer. some thing is different on the 98 non egr engines

The tall block assembly (less the sensors, fuel rail, etc)
are all the same,

I thought All 1995-up 4.0's have EGR?

The only thing you need to worry about with an earlier tall block
is the flywheel/flex plate.

Up to mid 1997 they used six flywheel bolts mid 1997 on they used eight.

So if you get the flywheel/flexplate with the engine it's anon issue.

Just swap all your crap onto the "new" engine

"SOME" 94 model Explorer's did come with an EGR system. I'm not too sue about Ranger's though. But I can vouch for the first one... I own one.
