ok guys i have a 98 2.5 manual with 52k miles on it. when ever i shift into 3rd gear w/o letting the rpms drop all the way it grinds. i need help bad befor i blow my tranny. :(

Quick shifting to 3rd will do that.
Alter your technique.

im not quick shifting tho and third is the only gear that dose that. could it be the sincros in the tranny?

sounds like it, but that's just an opinoin.

Does it ever shift without grinding?
Your original post led me to believe it does.
It is common to get a little grinding going into 3rd, my 2000 does it if I rush or powershift.

If you CAN shift without it grinding, that is how you should shift.
But yes, it could be a bad synchro.
Or poor technique.

Try double clutching it...

Shouldn't grind at all if you do that, bad synchro or not. I drove a farm truck where the synchros for 2nd, 3rd and 4th were out, you just double clutched it and it was fine. We got another 75K miles out of that trans.

Mine grinds a little in both 2nd and 3rd if I shift too quick or if the temp is really cold or really hot. 200K miles does that...

well only time it doesnt grind is if the rpms drop down to idle which takes for ever but every other gear i can shift fast and it doesnt grind its just 3rd

grinding gears

Yeah it's the syncro's in the transmission I have the same problem quite an easy fix but a time consuming job have fun!!
