35s

go with 456 gears and youll be fine, my 98 4.0 auto ran 33s for a month before i sold em bone stock and the only real problem was i couldnt do burnouts on dry pavement anymore lol

yeah I'd go with the gears, I'm currently running 35's on a 92' 4.0L auto with 3.73 gears, and it's a little on the laggy side, a set of 4.56's are in the works soon as the money comes in.

I ran 33x12.5r15s with a 3.slOw and 4.10s, not too bad. I got around 16 mph average.

I ran the same meats with 3.73s after an exploder 8.8" swap. Not too bad. Slow but I actually got pretty decent high way mileage pushing my rig up I70 doing 55 in first gear.

I ran 35x15.5r15s with 4.10s and that absolutely blew. 4lo made up for it on the trails, but I got below 8mpg.

Now I'm runnin 35x15.5r15s with 4.30 gearing in my 9" and I blew through a quarter tank in 12ish miles.

I've got a set of 37x13.5r16.5 on the way. I'll let you know how that goes.

Either way, expect the suck.

Well, either 4.56's or 4.88's, with master intall kits, and installation (if you cant do it yourself) probably in the neighborhood of $1500. Thats roughly what it cost me.

i would go a lot lower. i just put 35's on my truck with a 4.0 and im thinkin about 5.13's. my truck is pretty slow right now.

what would yall recomend??

For a 2.9 and 3.73s? I had 31s and that was manageable, you could probably do 32s or 33s, but it would still suck. Even the 31s kind of sucked.

If you keep the 2.9L, 5.13:1 is the proper gear to push 35" tires.

If you're planning on a V8 swap, 4.88 would be better (unless you don't use an overdrive trans, then 4.10 or 4.56).

whatll be my top speed with a 5.13

Way faster than you can legally go on any public highway.
Sheer wind resistance will hold you back long before you reach your engine's redline RPM.

Mine cruises right at about 2900RPM at 65MPH.
