35's On Stock 7.5" Axle

Hehehe... 70Km/h right? :D

With 35's, and that 2.9... It's probably not going to be a killer highway rig.

alright now, in all honesty, what is 70 on the highway gonna be like???

Well (assuming you're asking about engine speeds), in all honesty, should be right around 2800-3100 RPM at 70 MPH, depending on what transmission you have (OD ranges from .75:1 to about .85:1).

I have the FM146 in my BII (has the shortest OD gear of all) and it's fine. You get much under 2800 RPM at those speeds and your MPG will actually start to drop, as the 2.9L becomes less efficient (then again, if you slow down to about 60, you'll easily get yet another 1-2 MPG. I usually get around 22MPG going 60MPH)

ok. 31 spline 8.8" w/ 5.13's it is.

thanks alot guys.

ok, new question. I'm thinking about going with a 460 (moderately built, ~500hp) sometime down the road. will my 8.8 that i put all that effort into installing hold up to it?

I'm not an expert, but I would want something a little bigger than an 8.8 with a 460. I don't even think an 8.8 would hold up to that much power, offroading anyways. You may be ok on the street, but not wheeling.

GM 14 Bolt would probably be your best bet.

how about a 9"?

i like to keep my manufacturers congruent haha

35"s are big for an 8.8 but way to big for a stock 7.5

i have a built 413 SBC in a k30 with a gm14-bolt on 35"s and i have broken axleshafts. long story short no bigblock on small axles!

a set of 2.5 tons and couple of 52" ag tires

That's probably right at it's limit, but it should handle it if you don't abuse it (no burnouts, etc.). A 9 wouldn't be any better either unless you throw some coin at it.

The Ford (Sterling) 10.25" should handle anything you can give it with ease.
