I have a 98 ranger 4x4 with a 4 liter and I want bigger tires!!!

I have factory 15x7 wheels and dont really want to shell out cash for different ones....

I found a set of bfg mt kms for the right price and they are33x10.5.

I know they will fit on the rim...

but how bout rubbing?

what are the pros and cons of a thinner than usual 33?

Im guessing too that they will fit ok with your setup.

Basically, a thinner tire will sink more than a wider tire. Different conditions call for either - Thinner will dig through the goo better to find a more solid bottom in mud. Thinner will apply more grip on snow and ice. Wider will better keep you on top of deep dry sand and such where there may be no bottom. Ive also seen where wider works similar in the mud if you can keep your speed up! Also a "pro" for the 1050 is if your wanting to use a thinner rim. 1250's want at least 8in maybe 10in wide wheels. Your 7in wide wheels should do fine with 1050's.

I just ordered 33x1050/15 km2's for an old Dodge w150 that I use as a towtruck, secondary backup, and winter beater. It used to have 33x1250/15 but Im thinking the 1050 will work better.

My concern tho is that the taller tire (33) will rob alot of performance from your truck. My ranger had 235/75/15 (28in tall) with 3:73 gears and 3.0L (dont start out late for work). When I went to 31in tires, I was taught patience, and pretty much give up using overdrive. I eventually put in 4:10 gears and its back to normal (still no speedemon). With 33's on a 4.0L? Maybe you can get away with it...

33x10.5 will probably yield better mpg than 33x12.5.

I meant 4liter haha but yeah less rolling resistance with the 10.50s but I would still regear, 4.10s would be perfect for the 4.0L

the truck has 4.10s now, I am going from hankook dynapro mt 235/75/15 to the 33/10.5/15.

with the "28s" it has PLENTY of go. am willing to sacrafice a little bottom end.

I just bought a set of bg goodrich mt km 33/10.5/15s on craigslist for 525...had less than 1000 miles and still have tits.

I will throw them on next weekend and post review.. its been snowin here recently, so I will be able to get a good idea about how I like them

I just got done playin in the mud with the new tires....spent saturday puting on the belltech shackles, torsion crank, and the 3 inch body lift.....

I live in iowa and we have had alot of snow melting recently. so I thought what better time to do the lift and test the 33s.


the trails were all sorts of muddy. but the tires held up very well. crawled right through with ease...they are bfg mt kms....I am satisfied so far. clean out was perfect and highway ride is WAY better than the hankooks..

btw... am also very satisfied with the PA body lift... instructions could have been clearer, but overall the lift went smooth once I figured out what they were talking about( they could have labeled some of the "KIT" parts better)

Thanks for the report. From the reviews Ive seen, the kms were not especially suited for snow/ice but good for most everything else. I would have bought some tho if Id have found a deal similar to yours. Im still waiting on my new km2s for the old dodge. Ill give you my impressions on them in Michigan type winter driving... if they ever get here

huih lucky u got 4,10 gears i got a 98 ranger aswell with a 4.ol but its 3.73 gears i installed and ballenced a set of geolander at/s's 31/10.5r15 on a 15x8 rim works fine besides i can hardly do 100 up little hills

33/1050/15 BFG km2 report

Well, Ive had them about a week now, and with the "totally uncalled for" winter weather weve had, I feel I can give a qualified non-expert report.

wow.

They are so much better than the worn out tires I had, thats for sure. The old dodge is not overblessed with power (only a 318 4bbl w/4:10 gears) but I had a really hard time breakin loose during acceleration and cornering was good on anything except obvious patches of solid ice. There may be a slight, high freq vibration due to the tred (or the rear end I suspected bad is getting worse), I havent had real mud tires before so it may be typical. I could tell there was some tire noise but it wasnt near as bad as I was expecting.

Overall I am well pleased and would get them again. In fact, I have another set on order for my ranger, 325/60/15 (31/1250/15) that should arrive after newyears. I am looking forward to them even more now.

I have a set of 33x10.5r15 KM2's. they've been on for about two months now and I've had no complaints, they do really good on the road (super quiet), mud, and snow. this is my first truck so i don't have the experience to compare them to other tires, but they were a huge improvement over the Avon MT's that were on there before.

Mine's the older body style, but the fronts rub when I turn alittle and hit a bump or flex some, and they rub on the radius arms just before full turn.
