31 spline FX4 Level 2 replacement question

I think that is per, T expensive

31 spline Ranger shafts are shorter then explorer shafts (at least the '95+ disc brake explorer axles). I recommend ditching the FX4 axle and build an explorer 8.8... You can always find replacement shafts for those in the junkyard. If you want drums then the 1st gen explorer ('91-'94) 8.8 is the ticket and the rangers parking brake cables are plug and play. There is a slim possibly the drum brake explorer 8.8 axle shafts are the same length as the FX4. There is most definitely a difference in length of the axle shaft flange to axle tube end between 31 spline drum & disc axles.

31 spline Explorer axle shaft lengths:
1990-1994 axle shaft 27-3/4" long (drum brake)
1990-1994 axle shaft 30-5/8" long (drum brake)

1995+ axle shaft 27-5/8" long (disc brake)
1995+ axle shaft 30-1/2" long (disc brake)
