spent most of the day modifying the brackets for the panhard bar that came with the cheap ebay 4 link kit. its not pretty, but its stout.


i think "Made in China" means some assembly/ modification required.

Welded on the coilover mounts and started on a lift point to make changing the rear tires easier

I wish I had a driveway I could tinker on crap in.. so bad.
 
Did a little experimenting today. i am planing on upgrading the steering knuckles to the bolt on caliper setup type anyway so i decided to see how much additional steering angle i could get out of the stock system.

the first thing i did was grind down the bump stops on the knuckles witch didnt do anything but max out the steering gear rotation.

Next i cut 1 inch from where the tie rod end mount. this provided alot more angle but i ran into the issue of having to weld cast iron that has been soaked in oil, grease, and dirt for 30 years. Cracks galore.

after a couple of hours staring at the front end i chose to get the DJM drop beams and new stock knuckles like i planed originally. I could spend the time and weld the knuckles correctly but after welding cast iron in the past it is never 100% crack free. I could always just put a mustang front end on it later, and i like staying on the road
 
You would be better off extending the pitman arm than cutting the knuckles, longer is better than shorter... heck assuming power steering you might be able to just get an aftermarket lift pitman arm (I'm pretty sure they're steel not iron) and just heat and straighten it out to gain a couple inches...

your right, thats what im going to do. I forgot that the pitman arm is cast steel.
 
Im not going to be using wipers or hood hinges so i took them out and patched up the holes in the cowl.

Removed one of the coil/ shock mount to make room for the coil over setup. i will be running identical eBay universal 500lbs coilovers on the front and rear. not sure if they will be 12" or 14". there is alot more room now and lost around 20 lbs off the front by switching to coilovers

Made some solid cab mounts this afternoon. I took the spacers/washers that are used on the bottom of coil springs on the front and welded them together with some washers in between. they came out to be exactly 2 inches and the best part is that they were free! they are not the prettiest but they will hold the cab in place and prevent movement when build the roll cage. just gotta make 1" mounts for the front of the cab.

Also i cut off the driver side spring perch.

I'm following this build with interest, and can't wait to see this beast run. You're doing great!

I can't help but thinking, though, that you're going to need some better-than-stock cup holders. :)
