3.0L Gas Mileage?

if you had a 2.9 you'd get good milage and more power.

Not to stir the pot but... Depending on the years, the 3.0 either has the same power or more power. The last 2.9 i drove made my 3.0 feel reeeeeeaaaallll good, but alot of people say the same as you, so I guess it's a personal thing :icon_confused:

But I normally get 18-22mpg with a standard trans and shifting about 3k, but I got a heavy foot and a trashed motor.

so I assume the gas tank capasity is a 16 galloon tank? if not what the size of the tank on a 2001 6cy 3.0 5-speed manual. i want to know so that i can figure out what i am getting per gallon.

is it normal to fill up every 2-3 days in these.

Your gas tank size has NOTHING to do with your fuel economy. Distance traveled divided by fuel used - that's all that matters.

No seriously you really think i said that. I never stated such. I was asking what size was my tank so that I could do the math and see what type of miledge I was getting. thks

And I will say it again. Your gas tank size doesn't have ANYTHING to do with calculating your gas mileage. The amount of fuel you USE (which you see when you refill) is the important number.

The Ranger is heavier and not as aerodynamic. When I had my '99 Ranger, 3.0/stick/4x4, I averaged about 18 which I thought was pretty good for a 4x4 truck.
Here is what will help a little bit:
Full tune-up, filters, everything.
Synthetic fluids and lubes everywhere.
Proper amount of air in the tires (Barack Obama says so).
Alignment.
Cat-back exhaust.
Tuner of some sort like an XCal2.

IIRC, when it comes to 3.0 vs. 2.9 the difference is that the 3.0 makes it's peak power at about 1000 rpm higher than the 2.9.

Hmmm... lemme see here...

The only way you could accurately calculate your gas mileage with the size of your tank is if you were to completely run your truck out of gas.

But if you must know....

thanks this what i was looking for as I was saying if I have a 16.5 gallon tank and average 19 miles per gallon that would equate to 313.5 total miles for a 16.5 gallon tank in city. and obviously it will be more or less depending on rather I drive freeway, both or my drivivng pattern. You answered my question as if I had a 20 gallon tank I would have more gas capacity and get more miledge. Thanks.

Great info and thanks for a answer and not making a non-useable comment without a answer. thks

Non-useable comment without an answer? You asked the wrong question. Are you trying to determine gas mileage or range? If you're trying to determine gas mileage (what you asked about) the tank size is completely irrelevant. If you're trying to determine range, then it's a different story. I gave you an answer based on what you asked, not based on my telepathic guess of what you might have meant.
