3.0 vs 4.0?

The 4.0 lasts just fine. Just keep it full of good fresh oil and coolant and it should go a quater million miles. My explorer has 185,000 on it and still runs just fine with no smoking, knocking, ticking, loss of power, etc.

What about the newer 2.5? My 94 4.0 has 300,000 and it ticks valve train is shot but it still has a great amount of power. Leaks from everywhere you can think of. Still runs still drives still gets beat up. I am trying to blow it so I can have good reason to swap but it takes a lickin and keeps tickin literaly.

I think you will be more then satisfied with the 4.0. I love both of mine.

I've had both a 3.0 4x4, and a 4.0 4x4. The 4.0 does a much better job, with less gear then the 3.0 truck had, at getting around. It has torque, and will pull anything I want for the most part. 3.0's have alot of problems with belt squeals, and water pumps being the kicker. I had plenty of issues with mine in regards to that. My 4.0 has a little squeal but nothing near as bad. The 4.0's have that hesitation/vibration but its quickly remedied. Seems like in most cases a 4.0 vs 3.0 are pretty straight forward. Both will take you 300k miles, just the 4.0 will leak a little but have more power.
