3.0 v6 to 2.3 l4

Hey there, my ranger caught on fire the other day and the reason I'm posting is because I have found a 94 ranger 4x4 3.0 v6 for 500 dollars. Right now the 2.3 engine I have in the burnt ranger still runs but the cab is pretty much destroyed. So can a four cylinder fit in a 4x4 v6? If so it would save lots of money, be fun to do, and I will have me a 4x4. Not sure if the tranny will work though.
