3.0 to 4.0 questions

i mean dont get me wrong the sohc is a much better engine. my buddy actually has an 05 with the sohc and obviously the m5od-r1 hd to go with it. i love the power it has. i dont know a lot about putting the sohc in the 93-97 rangers (third gen i believe). what all does that involve wiring wise? i really was just trying to find something that i could pretty much just drop in and keep it as factory as possible.

the ohv was the only thing my truck was lacking when i bought it. but it came with manual everything, bench seat(awesome lol), vinyl floors. a (what i think) perfect setup for a daily/wheelin truck. but it had the 3.0 which i didnt want but i figured i would change it out some day.... 6 years and almost 80,000 miles later i finally killed my 3.0 after its like 20th hydro lock hahahahaha. now from this lesson i have had a snorkel for awhile i just havent installed it yet......so with this swap will be a snorkel.

Snoranger dropped a SOHC in his 95 Explorer. He said he just plugged it in and fired it up, more or less. He was running the EEC-IV system. Send him a PM and find out what it took.

Also, I would not say the SOHC is a "better" engine. The power curves are almost the same where it matters, they don't really get better mileage, and have you ever taken one of those things apart? So much that can and does break. The head gaskets are too thin too. They only have a .002 to .003" compressed thickness and look like Swiss cheese with 12 holes around each cylinder. They blow gaskets. The OHV wasn't as bad about it.

I did find a Mustang performance site that sells .004" compressed head gaskets for the SOHC that are supposed to be stronger. Gonna give that a try when I SOHC swap my B2 since the engine I have already needs head gaskets.

i was thinking more along the lines of more power lol. but i have heard of these head gasket problems. my other buddy with an 03 had to replace his heads i believe due to them cracking but isnt that a semi common problem with the ohv as well?
