3.0+mountains= slow

the 3.0 really doesnt like mountains. i have a 94 3.0 with76,xxx. on my way back to school i was going up afton mtn on I64. with a light load 2 people and some clothes. I had to drop it out of od and floor it to maintain 60-65. is this normal or should i have it checked.

What I do is drop it out of OD. and pin it to the floor and she will run around 5-6k all day long.

I live in West Virginia live on top of a hill, still don't have too many problems, if the engine is still cold i have trouble. But if its warm, pretty darn good. The hill is probably 70-75 degrees maybe more who knows about 400-500 feet long, the bottom 30 feet is flat, just gun it and you should do fine i get about 35mph doing this just don't let go of the gas! whatever you do! the car goes the wrong way lol

Well this particular stretch of 64 is 2 or 3 miles long so gunning it at the base doesn't help much. the truck wont go any faster than 60(65 when it shallows out)3100rpm so it right around peak torque

Yes it's normal.

I've had to run up hills in 3rd gear at 5k on the freeway before (TRS needs the :homer: icon that pirate has)

its normal, i can barely use 5th on the highway unless im going down hill or on flat ground.

a 70 degree incline is pretty extreme.

my 3.0 makes it up 1-70 in the rocky mountains with minimal issues. I usually never touch 5th tho and do have the occasional drop down to 3rd but it'll hold the rpms all day long and stay 60-65. now my 2.8 in the 85'... horrible i get passed my semi trucks and what not.
