2wd vs 4wd

My brother has a two drive and beats it like a "four" wheel drive. Only one wheel spins in the rear but it still gets the job done. He's fearless with the gas pedal though.

Hey I gotta replace my axle seal so I'll be in there lookin-round. Any prerunners install lockers yet?

dont make me feel bad about my poor little truck :yahoo:

dont feel bad about it I have a 2wd to, come on its still a truck you can still do stuff in it that you cant accomplish in a car

hay ive had my 2wd het through sutff that i had to pull a 4wd ranger out of:icon_rofl:

this has never happened.......4wd:icon_hornsup:

thats why you spool it :headbang:

I welded my rear in the 2wd and it only get stuck when it was frame hung. 4wd is great. But I like the excitement of a 2wd in the mud. Gotta keep the momentum up for hills and what not. But 4wd is where its at for trails

sorry, I really dont like the idea of getting momentum up for hills. I would much rather prefer to say 4wd low and slowly crawl up it so there is not risk of royal f-ing on anything.

I had no clue that some rangers were peg-leggers?
fearless with the gas pedal, fearless with his wallet

2wd is a joke

4wd all the way

+1 i honestly dont get why people take a 2wd and lift it, it just doesnt make sense to me,:dunno: because even if you have a worked up, lifted, 2wd, im still going to chug right by you in the mud with my unlifted, mildly built 4x4, on street tires, but yea everyone to his own i guess

2wd is still pretty fun off road. eventually im going to do a lift on my 2wd and lock it up. in the end though i do have plans to convert it to 4wd in the future because lets face it, 4wd will get you through more things than 2wd

Locking a 2wd helps, but you still have 60% of the weight over an unpowered axle. I have had to drive out in 2wd before (once on the front axle after I tore out the rear driveshaft) and it's no fun. You are done playing and trying to make it to the trailer--often needing help through things. No 2wd is going to do any 'crawling' unless your plan is to just drag the thing through with the winch.

Never commit your army in piece-meal. Put it in 4wd and make it the first time. Or at least get it stuck so far out that nobody can steal it before you get back with the dozer to free it.

exactly what i think:icon_thumby:

driving in the sand the othernight i just burried it in 2wd. dropped her in 4lo and pulled it right out. i love 4wd!!! lets see a 2wd do that

My buddy had a 2wd F150 he never got stuck, he passed 4x4 K20's with it. Granted he wasnt scared to hit anything with it fast enough to blow right through it.

300/5sp 1989 model.

I know my 96 F150 4x4 has a trac lok in it, and i rarely have to use 4x4 unless i get in seriously deep snow or get stupid with it.

Anyone ever notice though how a 2wd truck seems to do better then a 4x4 truck does in 2wd?

later,
Dustin

A lifted 2wd w/tubular beams and coilovers is MUCH lighter in the front than a 4wd. Light trails/sand 4wd is just a luxury.
Mud and serious trails should be left to the 4x4s!

4 or 2 its all about the driver. some things like rock crawling you need 4wd. but thats apples to oranges. if you not good enuff to go thru a mud puddle in 2wd then dont do it. i can count on one hand how many times i needed 4wd.

bit mouthy are ya. You are welcome to bring your glorified 2wd (2 open diffs=2wd) out wheeling with me anytime and show me how sweet your 2wd is.

weight issues are the real dif, i myself liked my heavy 4wd. ive rode 2wd rangers, its fun, and eventually ill build something similar w/ a lot of motor to go baja w/. crawling etc is awesome w/ 4wd, plus my 4wd has the weight to be used as an anchor for winching. my 4wd went out on mine and i never fixed it just hwy drove for 3 yrs, hit some mud and a few things in just 2 wheel. w/ the proper discretion you can be safe w/ anything. i just wish i had lockers for the difs, no welding for me sorry. i plan on fixing the 4wd, it just quit on me after i rear ended a car, i hate push button 4wd w/ auto lockers...
