2wd vs. 4wd, need help choosing

I say limited slip. I only used 4wd in the explorer to get in and out of the driveway. got to the base during a recall in a foot of snow before the plows ran, I had 3.73 L/S and Yokohama Geolanders.

for daily driving a 2wd is just fine....for nasty stuff a 4wd helps....some one i know on here had a 2wd ranger with a lunch box locker...went weelin with him and a bunch of other people....lets just say he was out wheelin the stock 4wds all day long

You mean keeping up with them right? I know for sure a locked 2wd can go pretty far.

I think I am gonna stay away from the limited slip just because they wear out and I will be buying a used diff and chances are its gonna be fairly worn Im thinking. Heck if I do find one I may still get it and just check it out, if it needs it how much are rebuild kits for the limited slips?

a rebuild kit is usually around $100. how fast the l/s wears depends a lot on how you drive. ive seen factory l/s's that were still fairly tight after 100K.

i think you can get a torque bias l/s for the 8.8 too...but it might have been for the 31 spline axle...i dont remember. those dont wear out, persay...

My buddy's got a 94 with about 190k on it and the L/S still can break both free on dry pavement.

Yea, I would rather not go through the hassle of trading my truck in. At least not yet.

Now that I think of it the only time I used the 4wd in my 87 Ranger was either to get out of a ditch I drove into or to play with some friends on some sandy slopes. And even then I tried the slopes without 4wd engaged and made it pretty far, plus my truck was all open diffs. I may go for a lock-right when the snow settles down, I guess when snow comes next year I should remove it? Seems pretty straight forward.
Leave it in, it will be fine.
